1 cup brown sugar 1 cup white sugar 1 cup shortening 2 eggs 1/3 cup dark molasses 1 teaspoon baking soda, dissolved in 1 tablespoon boiling water and allowed to cool. Sift together: 3-1/2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ginger
Blend in order given. Chill, roll in walnut-sized balls, pressing each down with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake @ 375º for 7-10 minutes. Cool in rack and store in tight-lidded glass or tin container.
