3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp powdered ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp powdered clove
1 1/2 cups raisins chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Beat together shortening, sugar and egg. Blend in
molasses. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and
spices; blend into creamed mixture. Mix in raisins.
Chill dough. Shape into small balls (1" in diameter)
and roll in sugar. Place on parchment or lightly greased
baking sheet. Bake at 375F for 8 to 10 minutes.
Remove to cooling rack.
