1 pkg dry yeast
1/4 c warm water (105 to 115 degrees)
1 1/2 c warm buttermilk
3 tbsp sugar
1/2 c melted shortening
about 4-1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water in a mixing bowl. Add buttermilk, sugar, and shortening; mix well. Combine flour, soda, and salt; slowly add yeast mixture, mixing well. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead untill smooth and elastic, about 7 minutes. Let rest 10 minutes. Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls and place in 2 greased 9 inch round pans. Let rise in a warm place (85º) free from drafts for about an hour, or until doubled in bulk. Bake at 400º for 15 to 20 min. Yield: 12-18 Prep: 15-20 minutes.
