Ingredients:
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 T. baking powder
1/3 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add slightly beaten egg. Mix and sift the dry ingredients and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture. Add flavoring. (I like to add a little almond along with the vanilla.) Toss on a lightly floured board or canvas cloth. Roll thin. Cut into shapes and place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350º for about 12 to 15 minutes, depending on thickness and size.

Personal Notes:
This takes me way back to my childhood. The recipe is from my grandma, Nancy Jane Sabin. One of my treasured memories from visiting Grandma's house was the treat of having a big somewhat hard sugar cookie with a big glass of milk. I think this must be the same recipe that Mrs. Santa used to make the giant dinner-plate size cookies with scalloped edges that were left at our home on Christmas mornings years ago.
