Brine:

4 c sugar
1/3 c canning/pickling salt
4 c vinegar
1 1/3 tsp turmeric
1 1/3 tsp mustard seed

3 onions, thinly sliced
15 unpeeled cucumbers-thinly sliced

Directions:
Directions:
Mix brine ingredients til dissolved. Layer slices of cucumber and onion into a large refrigerator dish with cover. Pour brine over top. Cover loosely. Place into refrigerator. Stir occasionally. After 3-4 days tighten the cover. Eat whenever. Will keep "forever".

This was my Grandma Heins' recipe for bread and butter pickles, which I did not appreciate until I was more 'mature' because they were not dill pickles!
