2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp soda
2 tbsp cocoa
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1/2 cup water
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups grated or finely chopped apples (about 2)
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees, grease 12 cup molded tube style pan generously with 2 tbsp shortening. Dust pan with flour and shake out excess. In medium bowl sift together all dry ingredients. In large bowl cream butter and sugar. Add one egg at a timeand beat 1 minute for each. Add water and beat until well blended. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture and beat until fluffy. Fold in apples, nuts, chocolate chips and vanilla until evenly distributed. Spoon into pan.
Bake for 1 hour or until cake tests done.
Cool in pan pan or rack for 16 minutes. Turn out onto rack to cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
