2 1/4 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cocoa
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup crisco
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 fliud oz bottle of red food coloring (add water to make 1/4 cup)
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 tbsp vinegar



Icing
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cube butter
3 tbsp flour
1/2 cup crisco
1 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, measure and sift again with salt. Cream sugar and crisco, add eggs and beat. Combine cocoa and coloring then add to the creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Add flour and buttermilk alternately, Finally dissolve soda in vinegar and add last. Bake in 3 8in layer pans or in 2 9in pans for 25 minutes at 375 degrees.


Icing
Cook milk and flour until thickened and then cool. Cream crisco, butter and sugar until light and fluffy. When the milk mixture is cool, combine and add vanilla.
