Cake:
2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. water
3 tbsp cocoa
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. soda
1/2 c. buttermilk

Icing:
1 stick butter
3 tbsp cocoa
4 tbsp milk
4 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts if desired

Cake:
In a bowl mix together flour, sugar, salt.
In a separate bowl mix butter, shortening, water, cocoa. Mix well.
In a separate bowl mix eggs, soda and buttermilk.
Mix all the above together until well blended.
Pour into greased and floured shallow (jellyroll) pan.
Bake 20 minutes at 350.

Icing:
In pan on stove: Butter, cocoa, milk
Heat and blend thoroughly, but do not boil
Remove from heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla and 1/2 c. nuts if desired
Mix thoroughly
If icing is too thin, add a little more powdered sugar
Frost while cake is hot
