1 cup sugar
3/4 cup Crisco or Vegetable shortening
1/4 cup light molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour (gluten free flour is ok)
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground cardamon
1/4 tsp. salt
Granulated sugar (for rolling)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. In large mixer bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, shortening, molasses, and egg. Beat at medium speed until blended. Add flour, soda, spices, salt. Beat at LOW speed until soft dough forms.

3. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place balls 2" apart on ungreased sheet. Bake 8 to 12 minutes. Cool completely before storing.
