1/2 pound dates, rough chopped = 1 cup
1/2 cup water, more if needed
1/2 tsp lemon juice

1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup salted butter, room temperature
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 cup oats

Prepare Dates

Cook on the stove top until a jammy consistency. Watch closely and stir, as they can burn quickly. add lemon 1/2 tsp lemon juice. Set aside and prepare the crumble.


mix dry ingredients, including sugar, then cut in butter.

Spread 1/3 to 1/2 of the crumble into the bottom of a prepared 8" x8 " pan and press down, gently spread the date mixture over top. Top with remaining crumble mixture.

Bake at 325 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
cool and cut in to squares
