1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup nuts, optional
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugars, add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Combine flour, soda and salt, add to creamed mixture. Stir in oatmeal, nuts (if used) and chocolate chips. Form into two long bars and wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate or freeze for at least two hours. Slice about 1/4 inch thick and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes.

This is Mark's favorite childhood cookie recipe. He took it with him and made it on his mission to Montana. I've found that the cookies slice better if mini chocolate chips are used, rather than regular sized ones.
