2 C. flour
1 C. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
½ C. cocoa
½ C. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
¾ C. sour milk (add 1 T. vinegar or lemon juice to ¾ C. milk)
1 C. chocolate chips
1 C. chopped walnuts (optional)

Frosting:

3 C. confectioners’ sugar
6 T. softened butter
½ tsp. vanilla
Optional: Add 3 heaping T. cocoa for chocolate frosting or omit for vanilla frosting
Milnot milk – enough to make desired consistency

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, and cocoa. Add shortening, vanilla, eggs, and milk to dry ingredients and mix together. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop dough (using two teaspoons or a small cookie scoop) onto a greased cookie sheet or a non-stick cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Mix the frosting ingredients together using a hand mixer. Once cooled, frost cookies.
