½ cup shortening
½ cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
4 squares unsweetened baking chocolate (4 ounces), melted and cooled
1 ½ cups buttermilk or sour milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Beat shortening, margarine and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and beat again. Add chocolate and stir. Stir in milk. Sift flour, baking soda and salt, mix into batter. Mix in nuts. Chill dough at least one hour. Drop by teaspoonfuls or use cookie scoop to drop onto cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake 8-10 minutes.

If you need to make sour milk, add 2 teaspoons vinegar to 1 cup milk.
