Directions:Cream together butter and sugar in bowl, then beat in egg. Mix all dry ingredients and mix well. ( I use whisk) Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and blend well. Add evaporated milk as needed. Start with one Tablespoon and gradually add other 1/2 -1Tablespoon as needed. Dough will be kind of stiff but you want it able to be rolled into a big ball. I usually divide dough into 2 balls enabling it to chill faster. I cover both with plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator usually over night. When ready to make cookies, flour a pastry sheet with flour liberally and roll ball to about 1/4 thick. Then use floured cookie cutters to cut cookies.
Bake cookies at 400 degrees for 7 - 10 minutes or until light golden in color. I check them and bake for an additional few minutes if needed. .To ice: To softened butter add vanilla and confectioner sugar until consistency is like peanut butter. Add milk or evap milk as needed and food coloring for desired color and stir well. Use back of spoon to ice cookies. |
