Ingredients:
2½ c. brown sugar
1½ c. white sugar
1 c. milk
2 Tbsp. corn syrup
¼ tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. butter
1 c. chopped peanuts

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan, mix sugars, milk, corn syrup and salt. Stir to melt the sugar. Bring to a boil. Do not stir while boiling. Boil hard until a small amount of the liquid makes a soft ball in cold water. Remove from the heat. Stir in the butter and vanilla. Cool in cold water in the sink. After cooling, beat until the batter begins to thicken. Add nuts (if you are using them). Pour into a well-greased 8 x8 in. pan. Chill before cutting.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I have never been able to make this fudge like my mother, even when she sat by me and directed every move! I suspect the art of making it perfectly is in the cooling or the beating that is required. I hope you have success with it. It is a classic indeed when made correctly. It was the envy of many Sou' Westers!
