Granny's Bread Pudding Recipe

Pudding:
4 cups bread, broken into small pieces
Enough milk to soften the bread, about 2 cups
½ c. sugar
2 eggs
Dash of salt
Nutmeg to taste

Sauce:
1 c. brown sugar
1Tbsp. corn starch
2 c. water
Pinch of salt
1 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Put the bread in a bowl. Cover with enough milk to soften the bread well. Beat the eggs and mix with the bread and milk. Add salt, sugar and nutmeg.. Pour the mixture into a greased pan or casserole dish. Set the pan in hot water. Bake at 350º about 1 hour until set like custard.

In the meantime, prepare the sauce. In a saucepan, mix the sugar, salt and corn starch. Sir in the water. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 15 minutes. Add vanilla and butter.

Serve pudding warm with the brown sugar sauce.

Another old country quick dessert. Nothing was ever wasted, not even dry bread. You may need extra milk if the bread is too dry.
