¼ c. shortening
½ c. white sugar
½ c. molasses
1 egg
1 tsp. soda
½ c. hot water
2 c. flour
1 tsp. ginger
½ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Combine the soda and hot water and add. Blend until smooth. In a separate bowl combine all the dry ingredients.
Add gradually. Stir everything well. If the dough appears too soft add a few extra tablespoons of flour. Drop by spoonfuls on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for 10 to 12 minutes.
