1 C butter
2 C sugar
1 t salt
1 t vanilla
2 eggs
2 ¼ C flour
1 C buttermilk
½ C cocoa
2 t baking soda
5/8 C hot water

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.
Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla together. Add the eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Add flour, buttermilk, and salt, beat an additional two minutes. In a separate bowl, mix cocoa, baking soda, and hot water together. Add this mixture to the rest of the batter and mix well. Bake for about 40 minutes.
 

Grandma’s Chocolate Frosting

6 T cornstarch
2 C of water
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
2 C sugar
2 T butter
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Put sugar and cornstarch in a two-quart saucepan, mix together well. Add water and chocolate, cook on medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla, When the butter has melted, beat well and let cool. Pour over the chocolate cake.
