2¼ cup unsifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter (shortening works better)
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
12 oz chips
1 cup nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
combine flour, baking soda, and salt
set aside
in large bowl, combine butter, sugars, and vanilla
beat until creamy
beat in eggs
gradually add flour mixture
mix well
stir in chips and nuts
drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased sheets
bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes

for pan cookies spread in greased 15 x 10 baking pan
bake at 375º for 20 minutes

for mint chips I added ¼ cup cocoa and ½ teaspoon peppermint
