Granny's Apple Pie Recipe

double pie crust
5-6 apples
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1 Pat of butter, 1 tablespoon
If you are using sweet apples, add a tablespoon of lemon juice to sliced apples before placing in pie crust.

Pie Dough
5 1/2 cups flour
1 lb. butter or shortening
1 1/2 Teaspoon salt
In a 1 cup measuring cup add, 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 egg
Blend and fill to the top with water. Add to flour mixture. Makes 3 double crust pies. Separate into 6 equal balls. Pie crust freezes well, for up to 6 months.

Line bottom of oven with foil so it is easy to clean up. Roll out pastry dough and line pie plate with slits in sides and bottom of dough for light and flaky finish. Peel, core and slice the apples, place half the sliced apples in pie. Dust apples with 1 tablespoon of flour. Mix sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle half of the sweet mixture over the flour in pie. Repeat with last half of the apples, flour and sugar mixture. top with a pat of butter.
Cover pie with top pastry and cut a few slits in it for ventilation or cut a decorative crust. Sprinkle with a bit of sugar if you want.
Cover lightly with foil, bake for 40 minutes Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes more or until crust is a golden brown.
