1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
3 eggs (beat egg whites till stiff, add 1 egg yoke at a time
2 sticks oleo (most of us remember oleo, butter works too)
1/2 tsp. salt
3 level tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch baking soda (Granny never measured any ingredients)
enough plain flour to make thick (add little at time)
2 tbsp. mayonnaise (keeps from drying out)

Add ingredients to bowl in order listed. Bake 350º
Granny always made this in black skillet with little butter (oleo) & flour in the skillet before pouring in the batter. Mostly likely heated the skillet before pouring in batter.

By baking in a black skillet the edges would be crispy. Granny would split the cake into two layers and spread homemade jelly in between the layers. Bob loved this cake and would remember Granny whenever he ate it.
