¾ cup shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. ginger
1 egg
½ tsp. cloves
½ cup molasses
¼ tsp. salt
2¼ cups flour
2 tsp. soda
Granulated sugar, for rolling dough in

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugars, egg, and molasses. Blend into remaining ingredients. Cover and chill for 1 hour.
Heat oven to 350º. Shape dough into balls. Dip tops in sugar. Bake 10-12 minutes. Remove from pan immediately. Cook on wire rack.

On regular sized cookie sheet, only bake 12 at a time.
