1 1/2 cups apple sauce
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup raisins
1/2 tsp each: cinnamon, clover, nutmeg and salt
1 cup dates
1 1/2 cups nuts
3 cups flour
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda

Use sweet apple sauce, add to creamed mixture of butter and sugar. Cut fruit and mix with 1 cup of flour. Mix other ingredients into remaining sifted flour. Mix altogether and bake slowly.

Per Steve who has collected and studied our Noble family history extensively:
"Emma is both our Great Grandma Noble and her Mom is our Great, Great Grandma Neller. Her Mom, our Great, Great, Great Grandma is Magdalena Neller. She died in 1862 in Udolpho township. Nellers and Nobles were neighbors in Udolpho. (just north of Blooming Prairie)

Great Grandpa Alex and Great Grandma Emma were married in Udolpho in 1899.
