Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 1 cup apple cider vinegar 1 cup water 1 cup catsup 1 medium onion 2 Tbs yellow mustard 1 lemon, sliced 2-3 Tbs Worcestershire sauce 4 Tbs molasses 2 cloves fresh garlic (you can substitute with garlic powder, if you prefer) 1 tsp hot pepper flakes (adjust amount to suit your tolerance for heat) 2 Tbs brown sugar
**1-2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup of water (optional)

Directions: |
Directions:Combine all ingredients (except for the cornstarch/water mixture, if using this option) in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to med-low and simmer, uncovered, for 45 minutes or so. Turn off heat and leave the sauce in the pan to cool until ready to use.
**Optional step: If you prefer a sauce that is a little thicker, you can add a slurry of 1-2 tsps cornstarch and 1/4 cup water to the sauce once it is cooked completely. Add the mixture gradually and stir until incorporated. Allow the sauce to simmer an additional 3-4 minutes and check the consistancy. If it is not the consistency you like, add a few Tbs water to thin it out, or a little more cornstarch slurry to thicken it more. |

Notes: This sauce recipe was handed down to me from my father, John R Sorrells, and has been a family cookout standby for as long as I can remember. The recipe was developed by Gramps himself, and it merges the North Carolina style vinegar based sauce with the Kansas City style tomato based sauce. After much experimentation and tweeking, we are fortunate to be the beneficiaries of Grampy's quest for the perfect BBQ sauce. As the saying goes "I use that s**t on everything!" From chicken to ribs and everything in between, this sauce is the perfect compliment for any grilled meat
