Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Cream sugar and butter with an electric mixer until soft and fluffy.

Beat in egg, then stir in the vanilla.

Combine flour and salt in a separate bowl; add to butter mixture and mix to form dough.

Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour.

Whichever form you choose (cookie press, drop, or rolled into logs and cut).

Dip top of cookies into decorating sugar. For the holidays I use green, red, gold and white, but any color can be used for different occasions!

Bake in preheated oven for 8 minutes (I like to pull before any browning of the cookies occurs, this keeps them softer.)

Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool.

Enjoy!

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This recipe can be used in a cookie press, as a drop cookie, or rolled into logs about 1-½ inches wide and cut into cookies after chilling the dough. My favorite is rolling into logs so the cookies are more uniform in size, but it’s all about your preference!
