2oz red food coloring
2 ½ TBS instant cocoa
½ cup Crisco
1 ½ cup sugar

2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 ¼ cups flour
½ tsp salt
1TBS vanilla
1 TBS vinegar
1 tsp baking soda

Ingredients for Icing:
½ cup milk
1 egg white
1 stick of butter
½ cup Crisco
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Pinch of salt

Instructions for Cake:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In small bowl, mix red food coloring and instant cocoa, set aside
In large bowl cream together Crisco, sugar, and eggs
Add food coloring mixture to sugar mixture and beat. 
Slowly add a little buttermilk then a little flour, alternating until all is combined well 1/2
tsp. salt
Fold into mixture vanilla, vinegar, salt, and baking soda
Pour batter into greased 9" cake pans. 
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes
Let cool completely before icing
 
Instructions for Icing:
Skald 1/2 c milk, let cool
Beat egg white until frothy, then add butter, Crisco, sugar, dash of salt and vanilla
Stir in scalded milk  
Beat 10 min
Ice cake once it is completely cooled
