Directions:Bake at 400 degrees until done (brown on top and sides) - Grandma always used an iron skillet to bake them in. This helps create the brown sides.
Add more flour and knead in bowl until very stiff.
Grease a different bowl and put in dough - knead a little - cover and leave in warm place - let rise
Once it has risen, punch it down and let it rise again. Make sure you cover again.
Pinch off pieces and roll into balls (large) and place in greased pan - let rise in pan again. Cover this time as well.
Bake about 20 minutes. If they turn brown too quickly, cover them with foil so insides can cook throughly. Run butter on tops and serve. |

Notes: This was apparently one of the first things Grandma learned to cook. As the eldest daughter she would be put on a stool up next to the cabinet while Grandma Clawson told her what to do. She never measured anything; the one time I asked her to is what’s listed in the recipe. These ingredients have worked each time we’ve made them but I’m sure you could be off a little and still have them come out ok.
