Coffee cake base

1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coffee cake filling

1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine all coffee cake base ingredients together until smooth. Place half of batter into a greased 9x9 pan.

Combine all coffee cake filling ingredients together and sprinkle on top of first layer of batter.

Place remaining batter on top of filling and smooth across pan.

Bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.

We never seem to take a picture of this delicious treat as part of our traditional Christmas morning breakfast, but Cookie Grandma Rose made us many beautiful self-watering violet pots. This picture honors her memory ~ and her wonderful love for her family.
