Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 pint figs, chopped
1 cup shortening
1¼ cup sugar
3½ cup flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Chop the figs into small pieces and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and nutmeg. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition. Gently fold the chopped figs into the dough until evenly distributed. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This will make it easier to handle. Preheat oven to 375°. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters or form into small balls and flatten slightly. Place cookies on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
