5 C flour
2 C sugar
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 C butter
3 eggs
1/2 C buttermilk (more if needed)
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour with 1 cup sugar and next four ingredients. Cut in butter with pastry blender. Beat eggs slightly and add remaining sugar, buttermilk and vanilla. Add to flour to make a soft dough. It will be sticky. Chill for at least 2 hours. Divide dough and roll out on floured surface to 1/4 inch. Cut with 2 or 3 inch cookie cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with sugar before baking.

Bake on 375 degrees for 8-12 minutes.

NOTE:
- Roll into 1 1/2 inch balls and roll in sugar. Flatten with a glass dipped in sugar.
- Roll into 2 inch thick logs and refrigerate until firm. Cut into 1/4 inch slices
