½ C shortening
1 egg, beaten
1½ C all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
1 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Sift flour, salt, soda together, gradually add to mixture, beating after each addition. Roll into a roll about 1¾ inches in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper, chill in refrigerator. Cut into ⅛ inch slices, bake at 375º, 7-10 minutes. Yield: 6 dozen cookies.
