¾ c. butter, softened
1 c. packed light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 tsp. pure orange extract or 1 tsp. orange or tangerine zest
1⅔ c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
½ tsp. ground nutmeg
½ tsp. baking soda
1 c. dried sweetened cranberries (craisins)
1 c. semisweet chocolate chips
1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
confectioner’s (powdered) sugar

In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together butter and brown sugar. Beat in egg, stir in extracts or zest. Sift together all dry ingredients and then add to creamed mixture. Stir in cranberries, chocolate chips and nuts. Shape dough into small 1-inch balls. Roll balls in confectioner’s sugar, shaking off excess. Place on a baking sheet, allowing about 2 inches between cookies. Press balls flat with the bottom of a glass dipped in confectioner’s sugar. Bake in pre-heated 350° oven, 10 minutes for soft cookies or 12 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool on a rack.
