12 cardamom pods, crushed finely (or 1/2 tsp ground cardamom)
2 1/4 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
2 pkg active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
1/4 cup warm water
4 small eggs, room temperature
8 to 9 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Scald milk and butter, pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool to room temperature.
Stir in sugar, salt and cardamom.
In small bowl add yeast, 1 tsp sugar and warm water and proof until foamy (about 10 minutes).
Stir in proofed yeast mixture.
Stir in 4 cups flour.
Whisk in eggs one at a time.
Let rise 1 hour until spongy and double in size.
Add 3 to 4 cups flour until sticky, then rise 1 hour.
Knead, adding more flour as needed, until dough is soft and smooth.
Divide dough in half and braid into loaves.
Cover and let rise until double.
Preheat oven to 375 and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Brush with butter for a shiny crust.
