3/4 cup shortening
1 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar, divided
1 large egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Cream the shortening and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses.
2. In another bowl combine the next 5 ingredients. Then gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
3. Shape level tablespoons of dough into balls. Dip one side into remaining sugar, and place 2" apart, sugary side up, on greased baking sheets. Bake until lightly browned and crinkly, about 12-15 minutes.
4. Remove the cookies to wire racks and cool.
