14 cups flour
4 cups sugar
1 pound oleo
1 pound raisins
5 eggs, beaten
2 cups molasses
3 tablespoons baking soda
cinnamon & ginger
Directions:
Directions:

  1. Blend flour, sugar, and oleo together with a pastry blender.

  2. Boil and cool raisins. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. Add raisins to flour mixture. Make a hole and add eggs, molasses, soda, and reserved liquid. Mix until blended.

  3. Roll into rolls about 1 inch in diameter, putting two across a cookie sheet, flattening with your hand. Brush with beaten eggs.

  4. Bake at 350ºF. When cool, cut into bars. Store with wax paper between layers.



Very good with a light powdered sugar icing.

Mom made these when we were kids. Jim Wills brought the recipe to my attention, and suggested it be an addition to the cookbook. He said Mom gave the recipe to Aunt Ruth, who reduced the recipe to make it for their family. Thanks, Jim!
