Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c. (2 sticks) butter
1½ c. white sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp. milk
2 tsp. vanilla (or 1 vanilla and 1 lemon extract)
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tarter
1 tsp. salt
2½ c. all purpose flour

*Extra white sugar for rolling

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

In large mixing bowl, mix butter with sugar; add eggs and beat. Add milk, vanilla, baking powder, cream of tarter, and salt; mix. Add flour; mix thoroughly.

Roll dough out to approximately ¼ to ½" thick. Cut with glass (or cookie cutters). With a metal spatula, place each cookie on a cookie sheet (about 12 per cookie sheet). Bake at 400 for approx. 9 to 11 min. or until cookies are golden brown on edges, rotating pans halfway through baking time to ensure even baking. Do not over-bake. Cool on the cookie sheets completely before serving.

* If making plain round cookies, you can make balls and roll them in white sugar before baking; press down with small glass or cookie press. Yields 3 to 4 dozen.
