~ Brownies ~

8 tbsp. Butter
4 oz. Chocolate, unsweetened, chopped
1½ c. Sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
2 lg. Eggs
1 c. All-Purpose Flour
¼ c. Walnuts, chopped (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 400° F grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
2. In a large heavy saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate together, stirring consistently. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs, 1 at a time. Blend in flour and walnuts.
3. Spread in pan and bake until brownies just start to pull from sides of the pan, 18-20 minutes.
 

~ Frosting ~

5 tbsp. Butter, unsalted, softened
5 tbsp. Cocoa Powder, unsweetened
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
2 tbsp. Milk
1½ c. Powdered Sugar

4. In a large heatproof bowl, microwave the butter and cocoa powder until butter is melted. Beat together with a hand mixer until smooth. Add the vanilla and milk and stir.
5. Add the powdered sugar and stir, slowly at first, until incorporated; then beat on medium speed until frosting is smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
6. Use immediately on cooled brownies.
7. Cut into 16 squares.
