Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 c butter
2 c brown sugar
2 c white sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
4 c flour
4 c oatmeal
OR 5 c blended oatmeal and 3 c flour

Design your own favourite cookie by adding one or more of the following:
2 c chocolate chips, milk or semi sweet
1 c walnuts
2 c coconut
2 c raisins
1 - 7 oz solid chocolate bar, grated

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugars and room temperature butter. Add vanilla and eggs, beating well. Gradually stir in dry ingredients and about 4 cups of your favourite additions.
I like to add nuts, raisins and coconut OR chocolate chips and nuts.
Shape, using an ice cream scoop or rolling into golf ball sized balls. Donot press flat. Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes. They should be slightly browned on the edges and no longer shiny in the middle. Do not over bake. Let sit a few minutes before transferring to cooling rack.
If making smaller cookies, begin checking at 10 minutes.
Tip: Its good to bake a trial cookie or two, especially if using a different flour than you usually do. Sometimes you need to add a touch more flour if the cookie is too flat.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I found this recipe a few years after we were married, I've baked them many times since. When I made them to sell at our son's hockey tournament weekend in Morris, MB I made them large, just the right size for hungry players. We ran out on Saturday so I made more for the next day.
This is also the recipe Lisa used when she made her first of many chocolate chip cookies at age 6.
