Ingredients:
Ingredients:
½ cup shortening
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs, unbeaten
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Confectioner's sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Melt shortening, chocolate, and add sugar and vanilla. Mix well. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together. Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture (with nuts, if using). Chill dough several hours—you want it to be quite cold before baking. Form into small balls (tsp) and roll in confectioner's sugar. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes—they'll be soft when done; let them sit on the hot pan for a few more minutes before removing to racks to cool.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
You can substitute the squares of chocolate if you don't have any on hand. 1 square of chocolate = 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder + 1 tablespoon shortening. You can also use self-rising flour, if desired—just omit the baking powder and salt.
