Ingredients:
Add 1c of water to 2c of raisin to a sauce pan and simmer for 5 min, then cool to room temperature. Cream together 1c shortening (I use butter) and 2c granulated sugar. Add three well beaten eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla. Add cooled raisins. In a separate bowl sift together 4c all purpose flour, 1t baking powder, 1t baking soda, 2t salt, 1/2t cinnamon, 1/4t nutmeg and 1/4t allspice. Gradually add flour to raisin and shortening and blend well. Add 1c of chopped walnuts, drop onto cookie sheets in amount about twice that of other drop cookies. Bake @ 400º 12-14 min. Cookies should be brown on edges but still soft in the middle.
This was one of my favorite cookies as a child. Grandma made them and so did my mom.
