1 cup all purpose flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ cup shortening
¼ cup butter or margarine
½ cup granulated sugar
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp milk
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp vanilla
1 cup quick cooking oats
¼ cup chopped walnuts

1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and ¼ tsp salt.
In a mixer bowl beat shortening and butter for 30 sec, then add sugars and beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla, beat well.
Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating until well combined. Stir in oats and walnuts. chill dough 2 hours.

Form into 1 inch balls. Dip tops of balls in additional granulated sugar if desired. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in 375º oven for 10-12 min.

This recipe was shared by Allison Jones when we were stationed in North Carolina. Our families gathered to bake cookies each year before Christmas. I prefer them with cinnamon, but without raisins.
