Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 14 oz pkg cellophane wrapped caramels
1 can evaporated milk
1 box German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c butter, melted
1 pkg chocolate chips or mint chocolate chips
1 c nuts, chopped (opt)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Unwrap caramels & melt over a double boiler. Add 1/3 c evaporated milk.
Stir together cake mix, butter & 1/3 c evaporated milk. It will be thick. Divide it in half. Grease 8x8" square pan. (Double recipe cake part of the recipe for 9x13" pan.) Put half of the mix into pan & pat down.
Bake for 6 min. Remove & sprinkle chocolate chips & nuts on top. Next pour melted caramel on top. Let cool until caramel is set up. Crumble the rest of the cake mixture on top of caramel & gently pat down. Bake 15-18 min. Cool completely before cutting.
P.S. I melt the caramels in the microwave, checking at 3 min, stirring as it starts to melt. If not completely melted, heat for one min at a time. Be careful so as not to overcook them. It will ruin the caramel. Best if done on a double boiler.
