Nana’s Anise Cookies Recipe

1 c. butter softened

2 TBSP baking powder

1 c. sugar 4-6 TBSP. milk

6 eggs 1 sm. bottle anise extract

5 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour first then measure 5 cups

Add 2 TBSP. baking powder to 5 c. of sifted flour and sift together; set aside
Beat softened butter and sugar until creamy

Add eggs and beat well; Add 4 TBSP milk and anise extract and mix well

Add half the flour mixture and mix well; Add remaining flour mixture and mix well; Add remaining

2 TBSP milk if dough seems too dry; dough should be sticky

Refrigerate for about 30-60 minutes before rolling into balls; Form dough into 1inch balls

Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes until bottoms are very lightly browned and cookies are firm; DO NOT OVERBAKE OR COOKIES WILL BE DRY

Frosting:

Mix several small bowls of confectioner’s sugar with 2-4 TBSP(or more) milk and 1 to 2 tsp

anise extract to form a thin frosting. Add food coloring of your preference to each bowl and/or leave white

Frost cookies by dipping tops into frosting and allowing frosting to drip over cookie; Place on wire rack with wax paper underneath to catch frosting.

Sprinkle with colored non pareils or colored sugar
