1 C brown sugar
1 C white sugar
1 1/2 C shortening
3 eggs
4 1/2 C flour or more to make soft dough to roll
2 teasp soda
1 teasp salt
1 teasp vanilla


Filling
2 C dates
1 C nutmeats (optional)
1 1/4 C sugar
1 C water

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together and divide in 3 parts. Roll each part medium thin. Spread filling on each part. then roll like jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper and put in refrigerator overnite.

Cook filling until thick around 3 min.
Cut roll into 1/2 slices

Bake at 350
