1½ cups Crisco
6 tablespoons buttermilk
6 cups flour
1½ cups white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon ginger
4 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon cloves
1 c. molasses
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Put soda into 1 cup molasses in small bowl. Mix, let stand while beating sugar and shortening, add eggs 1 at a time. Beat until creamy.
Add molasses and buttermilk.
Add sifted dry ingredients.
Chill for a couple of hours overnight is best. Can be kept up to a week in refrigerator. Roll out on floured board, mixing in a little more flour.
Kneading a little doesn't hurt it can make it easier to handle.

Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Watch carefully, as they bum easily if overbaked or the oven is too hot.
