1/2 cup soft butter
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
food coloring if desired


Your choice of filling, cherries, nuts, dates. (I remember Mom using maraschino cherries)


Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º.
Mix butter, sugar, vanilla and food coloring. Blend in flour and salt thoroughly by hand. Wrap one tablespoon of flour mixture around filling (date, cherry or nut) and bake 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Do Not Brown

1 cup powdered sugar sifted
2 tablespoons cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
food coloring
Mix thoroughly and top cookies

Sprinkle coconut, nuts or sprinkles on top.
