1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tap. nutmeg
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. baking soda (dissolved in a little water)
1 c. sour applesauce
1 3/4 c. sifted flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup shortening. Add 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. cloves, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg and 1 cup raisins. Dissolve 1 tsp. soda in a little warm water, just enough to dissolve then stir it into 1 cup sour applesauce letting it foam over ingredients in bowl. Beat all together and add 1 3/4 cup sifted flour. Bake in loaf pan about 45 minutes at 350º.

This cake was extra special when she put her famous white frosting on it:
