3/4 cup butter and shortening mixed
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 cups black molasses
7-1/2 cups flour
4 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
4 Tbsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. soda
1/4 cup hot water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and shortening with sugar. Add molasses. Sift flour, cinnamon, ginger and salt together. Add soda to boiling water. Add flour mixture and water alternately to creamed mixture.

Work well with hands. Cover and store in refrigerator overnight.

Roll as thin as paper. Cut with cookie cutters.

Bake on greased cookie sheets at 375ºF for a few minutes or until they just begin to brown.

When cool, store in a tightly covered container.

The best way to roll cookies extra thin is on a cloth or covered board with a rolling pin tightly covered with a child’s new white sock.
Do not add extra flour.
