Directions:(Dough must be prechilled!) Sift flour with baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside. In large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed beat butter, sugar and egg until light and fluffy. At low speed beat in sour cream and vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture beating until well combined. Form dough into ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate several hours or overnight. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375º. Line baking pans with parchment paper. Divide dough in 4 parts, keeping some in fridge until ready to roll. Roll 1/4" thick and cut into desired shapes. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool. Garnish or frost if desired. Makes approximately 6 dozen.
Tip: Roll directly onto parchment paper and cut out or use powdered sugar to dust your rolling surface instead of using flour. Cookies won't have the flour taste. |

Notes: I made these cookies in a heart shape with red icing for Jaime to take to school when she was in 3rd or 4th grade! She still talks about it being a favorite memory of her childhood. I seem to remember that my frosting was too soft to stack them, and I had to figure out how to transport them in a single layer to school! Both sweet memories.
