Ingredients: "Fideo Delicioso" Note: 1 box of Vermicelli (which is the Fideo Pasta) serves approx. 2 to 3 individuals) - depends if it is a child or an adult. So if you want to serve 4 individuals, you should cook two boxes of pasta, for 6 cook 3 boxes, for 8 cook 4 boxes, etc, etc.
Special Note for Joshua - since you are making this for 6 army buddies, I would have the following ingredients ready to go...
4 boxes of Vermicelli. The recipe below is for 6 individuals:
3 lbs. - Ground Beef or Diced Chicken or Pork Chops/ Pork Steaks - cut into 1" cubes
4 Boxes 5 oz pkg - Q&Q Vermicelli Boxes
2 to 3 tablespoons - oil or shortening
1 Lage - Onion - Diced (Yellow or White)
2 Cups Chicken Broth - 5 to 6 Tablespoons of Knorr Pollo/Chicken Seasoning - mix together with 2 cups of hot water
4 cups - water
2 or 3 Tablespoons of Chili Powder (This is Optional to taste) I would add at the end after you taste initial seasonings.
*Salt - add to taste to your liking
*Pepper - add to taste to your liking
*Garlic Powder - add to taste to your liking
1 Can - Pinto Beans Drained (Optional)
*Fideo Ole Seasoning - 3 to 4 Tablespoons - add to taste to your liking Note: If cooking 4 boxes of vermicelli, I normally would add about 3 to 4 tablespoons, but add slowly to taste, you don't want to make your Fideo really salty.
Directions:
Sauté / Cook the meat of your choice. For example, if using Hamburger meat, brown the hamburger meat, if your are going to use chicken, you will want to boil your chicken in water first, if using Porkchops or pork steaks, you want to cube and then sear them - set meat aside
In the same pan, heat the oil or shortening and lightly brown the 4 boxes of Q&Q Vermicelli, stirring constantly because it burn quickly. To prevent from burning vermicelli, I normally will brown 1 box at a time and then put the browned noodles into another dish and move onto to the other boxes one at a time. When all are cooked then I put the noodles back into the pan you are going to cook your meal in. It would be good to use a pot that you might make chili in, if you don't have one, you can cook your meal into large skillets. After adding all the water and the meat, you need to leave room in your pan for all of the ingredients and for the noodles to expand a little bit.
Next add the chicken broth and water. Return the meat to the pan(s), this is where you will add the chili powder, garlic salt, salt, pepper and Fideo Ole to taste. The Fideo Ole is what is really going to give your Fideo meal that really authentic Mexican taste. Taste your noodles to make sure they are cooked through all the way. Adding the can of Pinto Beans is optional, you can even add cooked diced potatoes if you want. If you want your Fideo more soupy, you can always add additional water. Just remember to season accordingly to the water that was added.
Cover and bring to a boil, then simmer your pan(s) for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you want to add a little extra "Heat" to your meal, you can add sliced jalapenos or ground cayenne pepper
Note: Serve with Tortillas, enjoy your Fideo creation. When you put your leftovers in the fridge, it will taste even better the next day. When heating up, you can do so in microwave in separate bowls, you may need to add just a little water to make it soupy again.
